What happens if you dig a hole through Earth?

An antipode (pronounced an-tip-o-dee) is the point on the Earth's surface that is diametrically opposite to another point. The two points are connected by a straight line running through the center of the Earth.

The Calculation

  • Latitude: Flip North/South (e.g. 40°N → 40°S).
  • Longitude: Add 180° (e.g. 10°E → 170°W).

Fun Fact

About 71% of Earth is water. This means no matter where you start digging from land, you have a huge chance of ending up in the ocean!
